This week is Mental Health Awareness week (Monday 13th – Sunday 19th May), protection providers are aware your and your clients mental health is important, therefore they provide additional benefits when taking out a policy to help and support.

The Mental Health Foundation work towards good mental health for all; as everyone knows, prevention is better than cure. Everything they do is focused on protecting people’s mental health. This year’s mental health theme is ‘Moving more for our mental health’ check out one of the Mortgage Industry Mental Health Charter co-founders, Jason Berry as he is joined by industry stalwart Jonathan White and a host of others as they embark on a symbolic journey from Crystal Specialist Finance office in Tamworth to the HSBC office in Canary Wharf, walking 125 miles in just 45 hours!

In 2022 Menal Health was the most common reason for customers to claim – at a shocking 29.6%*, and to support this, many of the TMA Protection Providers offer some sort of Mental Health benefits, products or services.

Your clients may be facing similar challenges, there are lots of additional services and support available from protection providers and helplines, that your clients can benefit from. For your clients that have policies in place are they aware of these additional benefits? This is also a great value-added benefit for your client when discussing new policies.

  • People with severe mental illness have a 53% higher risk of having Cardio Vascular disease (CVD) and have a 85% higher risk of death from CVD.
  • The life expectancy for people with severe mental illness is up to 15-20 years shorter than the general population
